Q5(NCERT): What changes can you make in your
habits to become more environment friendly?
Answer: To become more environment friendly we
should follow the 3R's (Reduce, Recycle and Reuse).
1. Reduce: It means minimization of natural resources. We
may do the following:
1. Switch off lights, fans which are not required.
2. Repair leaking taps and save water.
3. Encourage solar cooker use and reduce LPG use.
2. Recycle: Instead of extracting or creating new products
from raw materials, we can collect old and used
material (e.g. plastic, paper, metal, glass etc.) and
recycle them to build products.
3. Reuse: Reuse is better than recycle since recycling use
some energy which can be save if we reuse the things
again. E.g. bottle of consumed food products can be
used to store things like salt, sugar, tea leaves etc.
4. Educate and Create Awareness: We should educate our
neighbourhood about environmental issues and take
collateral measures collectively. E.g. we can help other
in planting trees in our neighbourhood.
Q6 List any two common methods by which
solid wastes of urban areas are disposed off?
Answer: Methods are:
1. Bury in landfills
2. composting
3. recycle
4. incineration (waste treatment)
Q7 What is reuse strategy? Why it is
considered better than recycling strategy?
Answer: Reuse strategy means more than one use.
Before discarding things like bags, containers, and other
items, if these items are hygienic and we can reuse
them for other activities. Reusing products extends their
lives. As the process of recycling use some energy, the
method of reuse is always
considered better no energy is consumed. e.g. Pieces of
coloured glass, cups and plates made of china clay,
ceramic tiles, etc. can be used to make decorative wall
pieces.
Q8: What is a stakeholder?
